Biography

Bobby started playing the piano at the age of 4 and has never looked back. Starting his professional career at the age of 12, he has exploded onto the music scene becoming one of the Tri-State Area's biggest names. Bobby has recorded and toured with various artists such as Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, The Trans-siberian Orchestra, Franky Perez, Tyketto, Bobby Bandiera (Bon Jovi) and more. He has shared stages with Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Ben Harper, Joe Cocker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doobie Brothers and more.

In the summer of 2010, WPLJ's legendary radio host's Scott & Todd discovered Bobby's music and asked him to join them for their Summer Blast off to performn with Kris Allen and Barenaked Ladies. The crowd's response was so great that Bobby was asked back the following year to perform his debut single "Come On" live on the air in May of 2011, alongside 3 Doors Down, and Michael Franti. Bobby's single "Come On" became an instant hit on itunes after his performance live on the Scott & Todd Radio Show. The success of "Come On" lead Bobby to releasing his second single "Bring On The Rain", which has also had the same success on itunes.

Bobby has recently created one of the world best Elton John Tribute bands called "Bobby & The Jets", along with a tribute to piano greats called "The greats of the 88's". Both of these shows can be seen at a local casino, community park or theatre near you.

Performing close to 300 shows a year, Bobby is one of the area's highest demanded acts. Offering solo piano shows right up to his 8 piece Orchestra for weddings and private affairs.

For a young kid to take up the piano without any prompting from parents and on his own initiative may seem somewhat atypical, but that’s what Bobby Lynch did as a grade-schooler growing up in northern New Jersey.

Also atypical is the varied path Lynch’s career took after he mastered the instrument and became a professional musician, including an interactive, whimsical sort of variety show called Bobby Lynch’s Crazy Wheel that has been appearing at — among other places — Harrah’s Eden Lounge every Monday night (8pm-midnight) for about the last six months.

The Crazy Wheel concept grew out of a dueling-piano gig Lynch once did, and sort of evolved into an anything-goes variety show that he can tailor to audiences with varying degrees of social decorum (Eden Lounge would rate about a “PG”).

His regular weekly Wheel gigs in Irish pubs up near his hometown of Denville can get a bit risqué, but the A.C. show is modified to include everyday topics like movie and TV trivia, name that tune or “hair band,” famous catch phrases and others. Whenever a wheel spin lands on a subject, guests guess at trivia questions (flashed up via text or video on flat-screen TVs) to earn keepsake prizes, and interspersed throughout the evening is live music, a DJ, dancing and occasional karaoke.

“The theme has evolved drastically,” says Lynch, who has performed on the Las Vegas club/lounge circuit as well as with noted groups Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Gary U.S. Bonds and others, all before the age of 30 (which he’ll be in May).

“It really started out in an Irish Pub with some risqué topics on the wheel. Here it’s a different story. You can’t do it that way, but we do stuff like TV themes where we make these little video clips from old school shows like Saved By the Bell, 90201, the Golden Girls, whatever. If the audience feels like being a part of it, they just yell out the answer then go back to doing their thing. We give out stuff when they get it right like buckets of candies, silly toys, GI Joes — it doesn’t matter what you give them, they act happy that they got something.”

For several years Harrah’s ran a karaoke gig on Monday nights, but it grew routine when the lounge started seeing the same singers doing the same songs week to week, so a change seemed in order.

“We do some karaoke, but we bounce it in between all the other stuff we’re doing,” says Lynch. “I don’t want to have 30 karaoke singers in a row and have everybody leave the bar. We try to structure it so that it doesn’t get old. If you’ve been to karaoke places where it’s the same people signing the same songs, it can get old fast.

“We really just let the night go wherever it steers us,” he says. “We don’t have anything planned out specifically. We don’t have any set list, we literally just make it a function of assessing the crowd and gearing the music and trivia to that. Let’s say the crowd’s mostly 40-and-up — we’ll knock off the rap questions and put up something they can relate to more. We have different ways to gear our videos, and in between we’ll play a little bit of music and people might get up and dance for a while.”

And when it’s all over, Lynch packs up and makes the two-hour drive back up to Denville. This Saturday, Feb. 26, he returns to Harrah’s for a midnight-3am gig with his full band, including Danny McCarthy (bass), Al Budd (drums) and P.J. Zitarosa (guitar).

“This is all I’ve ever done — playing gigs, weddings, the club scene, whatever,” he says. “My parents had a piano in the house, I started playing it, and they supported everything I did. Ideally, I’d love to play seven nights per week with a full band. That’s what I love to do, and that’s what I want to be doing for the next 30 years. I’m here for the long haul.”

It’s very refreshing to see a cover band with a small twist on the usual. The Bobby Lynch Band is a great cover band with Bobby Lynch on lead vocals and piano. Yes…he actually plays an upright piano which I am very glad to see. It’s a great change from the electronic keyboards\synths that are used all over. The upright piano also ads some glam to the band’s stage presence.

The Bobby Lynch Band plays a very wide range of covers but what caught my “ear” about them was some of their featured covers. They have some tunes in their set list that will make you say “I forgot about this song”. Such a wide range of covers usually means that the band has a ton of experience and talent and that rings true for this band as well. Bobby Lynch has been playing piano professionally since he was 12! He has opened up for John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Journey, Def Leppard and more.
